Mission Statement

St. Mary Parish Culture of Life Ministry strives to build the Culture of Life in our Parish and Community by Defending Life, Strengthening Marriage, and Nurturing Families. 

 

Ministry Goals

GOAL 1:  Promote and defend the dignity of every human life from the moment of conception until natural death.

 To accomplish this goal we will:

  • Promote Respect Life Month in October through bulletin inserts/announcements, activities from the USCCB for catechists in school and CCD, Sunday Mass intentions from USCCB, and provide priests with homily notes from USCCB.
  • Mark the anniversary of Roe v. Wade in January through bulletin insert and a holy hour for life.
  • Support the Baby Shower, Pro-Life Billboard, and Life Chain sponsored by Wash. Co. Right to Life.
  • Offer a weekly Rosary for the coming of the Culture of Life and put the intention for each week in the bulletin.
  • Inform parishioners about Culture of Life issues through the church bulletin, monthly email newsletter, email action alerts and educational presentations. 
  • Promote responsible citizenship through educational materials from the USCCB.
  • Promote participation in the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C.

 GOAL 2 : Strengthen marriages and defend God’s design for marriage as one man and one woman in a permanent and exclusive union that is open to new life.

To accomplish this goal we will:

  • Promote Natural Family Planning through educational information and classes offered in the parish.
  • Promote National Marriage Week/World Day for Marriage through a bulletin insert.
  • Inform parishioners about Culture of Life issues through the church bulletin, monthly email newsletter, email action alerts and educational presentations. 
  • Support Pre-Cana by providing presenters about Natural Family Planning.

 GOAL 3 : Support and nurture families as the Domestic Church and the heart of society.

 To accomplish this goal we will:

  • Promote Natural Family Planning through educational information and classes offered in the parish.
  • Educate and inspire parents about the Church’s vision for the family through quotes and articles in the church bulletin.
  • Promote family-centered events in the parish such as the annual Rosary Procession in the Cemetery, family movie nights, etc.


Structure of the Ministry

  • Pastor
  • Ministry Leader (appointed by the Pastor)
    • Guides the ministry and ensures that it is faithful to Catholic teaching and the directions of the pastor
    • Identifies goals and objectives
  • Planning Team (selected by Ministry Leader)
  • Makes a yearly commitment to the ministry (beginning in August); may serve as many years as desired (no term limits)
  • Assists Ministry Leader in developing goals and objectives
  • Attends meetings (six times per year) to plan events and discuss ongoing developments of the ministry
  • Provides leadership roles for events
  • Commits to praying for the ministry
  • Ministry Supporters (open to anyone from parish who wishes to be involved)
    • Invited to attend Faith & Learning Nights (held 3/4 times per year to educate about and pray for culture of life issues)
    • Invited to attend and assist with events as needed
