Your Tax Dollars Will Fund Abortions and Planned Parenthood Under Obamacare, Here’s How

On a Friday night back in December 2009, Senate Majority Leader Reid was in tense negotiations with then-Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska, as Reid desperately needed Nelson’s vote to secure Senate passage of ObamaCare. Finally, Nelson had what Politico described as a “breakthrough” that lead to a deal, as Politico reported a few days later. Part of the deal, Politico wrote, was that “people who receive federal subsidies would need to write two separate checks as a way to ensure that none of the federal dollars went toward the abortion premium.”

Six days later, Senator Nelson took to the Senate floor to explain in detail the deal he had negotiated. With respect to the two check requirement, Senator Nelson said: “In the Senate bill, if you are receiving Federal assistance to buy insurance, and if that plan has any abortion coverage, the insurance company must bill you separately, and you must pay separately from your own personal funds–perhaps a credit card transaction, your separate personal check, or automatic withdrawal from your bank account– for that abortion coverage. Now, let me say that again. You have to write two checks: one for the basic policy and one for the additional coverage for abortion. The latter has to be entirely from personal funds.” [155 Cong. Rec. S14134 (Dec. 24, 2009)].  MORE

GOOD NEWS: Texas pro-life law takes effect after some portions struck down

(CNA/EWTN News).- A ban on abortions when an unborn baby can feel pain took effect in Texas today, one day after a federal judge blocked other new restrictions on abortion practices in the state. “The American public understands the importance of this law. Pain-capable unborn children should be protected from the violent act of a dismemberment abortion,” Mary Spaulding Balch, National Right to Life’s director of state legislation, said Oct. 29. “Sadly, 40 states still allow it. We continue to work for a day when mothers and their children are fully protected and respected by our laws and our society. Unborn children and their mothers deserve better than the violence of abortion,” she said. The law bans abortions after 20 weeks into a pregnancy on the grounds that an unborn baby can feel pain at this point. MORE

The Right to Life: the foundational issue

(National Right to Life) - It’s not a secret to anyone who reads NRL News Today that I am a huge admirer of Philadelphia Archbishop Charles J. Chaput. He is a graceful writer who is able to pack an amazing amount in insight into his weekly columns for “Catholic Philly.” I particularly enjoyed his thoughts and reflections this week on “Living the Gospel of Life: A Challenge to American Catholics.” Although I read this document from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops 15 years ago, I had forgotten just how powerful, how faithful this statement was and what a great impression it made on so many of us. Archbishop Chaput writes “I believed then, and I believe now, that it’s the best document ever issued by the U.S. bishops on the priorities of Catholic engagement in our nation’s public life.” MORE

Seminar In The Vatican On Human Trafficking

(VIS) - "Trafficking in human beings: modern slavery. Destitute peoples and the message of Jesus Christ" is the title of the seminar which, following a wish expressed by Pope Francis, has been organised by the Pontifical Academies of Sciences and of the Social Sciences, together with the FIAMC (the World Federation of Catholic Medical Associations). The seminar, which will take place from 2 to 3 November in the Vatican's Casina Pio IV, will be attended by twenty-two participants from various countries and international organisations, including the Nigerian Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, United Nations special rapporteur on Trafficking in Persons, especially women and children, and the Spanish doctor Professor Jose Antonio Lorente, scientific director of the Centro Pfizer - Junta de Andalucia Centre for Genomics and Oncological Research (GENYO) of the University of Granada, Spain. GOOD NEWS: Six-Year-Old Sets Half Marathon Record Raising Money for Pregnancy Centers

(LifeNews.com) - TheBlaze recently reported on the story of a remarkable girl, Keelan Glass, who is just six years old and the youngest person to complete a half-marathon, doing so in less than three hours. Keelan, from Texas, did the half-marathon in Dallas, with her mother, Tracy, a triathlete. That the mother-daughter pair did the run together, and that Keelan set a record is sweet enough. But Keelan was, as of October17, able to raise $2,855 for Pregnancy Resources of Abilene. TheBlaze links to reporting from KTXS, with those pieces including videos to learn more about Keelan. While some have questioned as to if it is a good idea for Keelan to have done the half-marathon, Tracy mentions that she and her husband consulted a physician. Keelan then signed up for LifeRunners. Belgium considering unprecedented law to grant euthanasia for children, dementia patients

(Washington Post) - Should children have the right to ask for their own deaths? In Belgium, where euthanasia is now legal for people over the age of 18, the government is considering extending it to children — something that no other country has done. The same bill would offer the right to die to adults with early dementia. Advocates argue that euthanasia for children, with the consent of their parents, is necessary to give families an option in a desperately painful situation. But opponents have questioned whether children can reasonably decide to end their own lives. Belgium is already a euthanasia pioneer; it legalized the practice for adults in 2002. In the last decade, the number of reported cases per year has risen from 235 deaths in 2003 to 1,432 in 2012, the last year for which statistics are available. MORE

Nun called 'the prison angel' dies in Mexico at 86

(CNA).- Mother Antonia Brenner, who married and divorced twice before converting to the Catholic faith and devoting herself to prison ministry for nearly 39 years in Tijuana, died Oct. 17 at the age of 86. “Humanly speaking, this is an irreparable loss, but from the point of view of the mission that she had, I think we have won something,” Archbishop Rafael Romo Munoz of Tijuana said after receiving news of her death. “She is a woman with the characteristics of a saint. I say that because I knew her and loved her a lot. I also received much affection from her. She has the traits of a saint, and that is why the Church has come out winning.” Mother Brenner was born Mary Clarke and was the mother of eight and lived in Beverly Hills prior to her conversion, which was effected by a dream. Even before this, she had done volunteer work for the poor in both Mexico and California.  MORE

Becket Fund will represent EWTN, Alabama in HHS suit

(CNA/EWTN News).- The Obama administration’s HHS mandate still compels the EWTN Global Catholic Network to violate Catholic beliefs, its new lawsuit in which both the network and the state of Alabama are represented by the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. “Version 2.0 of the mandate is just as bad as version 1.0,” said Lori Windham, senior counsel at the Becket Fund. “It would still force the world’s preeminent Catholic network to betray publicly the very teachings it was founded to promote, and which it promotes on a daily basis.” The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty is representing the Irondale, Alabama-based EWTN and the state of Alabama, the state constitution of which bars compulsory participation in any health care system. Our first home, an old ranch house, needed remodeling from the doorstops to the ceiling trim. We decided to do the job ourselves. Friends warned us of the dangers ahead. “The quickest way to divorce court is to hang wallpaper together.”

“It was the biggest fight we ever had.” “I love my wife, but I don’t remodel anything with her.” MORE

The Words You Use May Save a Life
By Kimberly Baker

In a society that generally advocates tolerance as a means of respect for all people, we ironically see an increase in harsh criticism, cruel jokes, and arbitrary judgments that violate people’s dignity. The media provide lurid and sensational coverage of crime, scandal, and celebrity gossip. The movie industry has been a powerful vehicle in shaping public opinion on religion and sexuality, alternately mocking or perverting these subjects for shock value and very rarely treating them with reverence. Political discourse frequently involves personal attacks and denigrating remarks. Stories of cyber-bullying as well as bullying incidents in schools have gained more attention in recent years, and we even hear of young people turning to suicide to escape the pain of cruel words.  MORE

"Everything starts from prayer. Without asking God for love, we cannot possess love and still less are we able to give it to others. Just as people today are speaking so much about the poor but they do not know or talk to the poor, we too cannot talk so much about prayer and yet not know how to pray." (Mother Teresa)

"Contraception is to be judged so profoundly unlawful as to be never, for any reason, justified.  To think or to say the contrary is equal to maintaining that in human life, situations may arise in which it is lawful not to recognize God as God." (Pope John Paul II)

“Do not be afraid to go and to bring Christ into every area of life, to the fringes of society, even to those who seem farthest away, most indifferent. The Church needs you, your enthusiasm, your creativity and the joy that is so characteristic of you.” (Pope Francis)

“Now, this is the most amazing thing when you think about it. Sperm, this little sperm, it does not have an immortal soul. And the ovum, you see, it does not have an immortal soul. And when the two come together, where does that immortal soul come from? The sperm doesn’t carry it. The egg doesn’t carry it. Where does it come from? It comes from a new act of creation by God. In each act of conception, there needs to be a new act of creation by God.” (Janet Smith)
