Yes on Issue 3: Ohio Right to Life Society Urges Members to Protect
Healthcare Freedom
(OhioLife.org) -Today, the Ohio Right to Life Society
announced its strong support for Issue 3. By voting yes on Issue 3, Ohioans
will preserve their freedom to choose healthcare coverage free of abortion
funding and healthcare rationing. The Ohio Right to Life Board of Trustees
voted unanimously to endorse the effort against mandated healthcare under
Obamacare.
When successful, Issue 3 will enact the Ohio Healthcare Freedom
Amendment, which provides that in Ohio no law will compel any person, employer
or healthcare provider to participate in a healthcare system and that no law
should prohibit the purchase or sale of healthcare insurance.
Recent
reports indicate that Obamacare would mandate $50 million each year to be
devoted to school-based health centers, which may offer contraception and
abortion services. MORE

GOOD NEWS: Forty
Days for Life to launch biggest campaign yet this fall
(CNA).- The pro-life advocacy group 40 Days for Life has
announced the launch of its biggest campaign ever this fall, with over 300
locations worldwide participating in the event. The
growth has “been a joy to see and I think it shows that people want to respond
to the crisis of abortion,” director Shawn Carney told CNA. The
Sept. 28 through Nov. 6 campaign – which includes fasting and peaceful prayer
outside of local abortion facilities – will take place in 48 U.S. states, 7
Canadian provinces, Australia, England, Spain and, for the first time, Germany
and Argentina. MORE | US
bishops’ lawyers accuse Obama Administration of ‘an unprecedented attack on
religious liberty’
(LifeSiteNews.com) — The general counsel of the U.S. Conference
of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has called on the Department of Health and Human
Services (HHS) to rescind its mandate forcing private insurance plans to cover
contraception—including abortifacients—and sterilization, calling the mandate
“unprecedented in federal law and more radical than any state contraceptive
mandate.” The
USCCB also criticized the narrow “religious employer” exception to the mandate... MORE |

Increased
cohabitation rates mean more instability for children
(CNA).- Family
instability continues to grow in the U.S. despite falling divorce rates for
families with children. Researchers say an increase in cohabitation is part of
the problem, adding that society’s “retreat from marriage” harms children and
has particularly hurt poor and working-class communities. “In a striking turn
of events, the divorce rate for married couples with children has returned
almost to the levels we saw before the divorce revolution kicked in during the
1970s,” said Prof. W. Bradford Wilcox of the University of Virginia. MORE |
GOOD NEWS: A
planet united for the culture of life: the untold story of World Youth Day
(LifeSiteNews.com) -
Imagine if two million people - not twenty thousand, or even two hundred
thousand, but two million - travelled from all corners of the world to unify
themselves into one enormous, impassioned mass to support a shared cause - and
international media paid only passing attention. Well,
that’s exactly what happened at World Youth Day (WYD) in Madrid this month,
where attendees witnessed a convergence that so broadly transcended
nationality, language, and skin color as to be without peer among modern-day
events. MORE |

Urges Retailers to Resist Pressure to Discriminate Against Customers With
Traditional, Biblical View of Marriage
(CCV.org) – In recent weeks,
online political activists have engaged in a misinformation campaign that seeks
to bully retailers such as Walgreens, Petco, and Netflix into discriminating
against customers and charities based on their religious beliefs, specifically
the traditional and biblical view of marriage as the union of one man and one
woman. The online activists are targeting CGBG, a charity support group with a
mission and partner network that includes more than 170,000 charities
representing a range of religious, non-religious, educational and other groups. MORE |
ANALYSIS:
The Problem With the UN’s New Fertility Forecasts
(C-FAM) The UN has reversed a
decade of speculation about a demographic winter in the West, and now says that
every country will achieve replacement fertility by 2100 resulting in a global
population of 10 billion. The problem is there is no basis for their
turnabout. UN agencies are hailing new numbers as evidence of
overpopulation in the developing world and vindication of decades of anti-natal
policies in the West, but the scientific basis of the latest UN forecasts is
slim. The most significant change in the UN’s new numbers is an increase in the
predicted convergence rate...MORE |
NIH
Accepts Four New Human Stem Cell Lines
(CitizenLink.com) - On Monday, a California-based biotechnology
firm announced the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has accepted four of its
stem cell lines for federal research projects—lines all developed from human
embryos. This is the first such announcement since late July, when a federal
judge upheld the Obama administration’s years-old practice of expanding human
embryonic stem cell research (hESR). In 2001, President George W. Bush
issued an executive order limiting the amount of federally funded ESCR to the
lines that already exist at that time — drawing a clear moral line that
additional embryo destruction would not be funded with federal taxpayer
dollars. MORE |
Must
listen: family band with 10 children spreading culture of life with powerful
pro-life song
(LifeSiteNews.com)
- The second eldest member of a unique and up-and-coming family band from a
small central Ontario community has written a beautiful song from the
perspective of a child in her mother’s womb as the mother is considering
abortion. The Black Family band is composed of many of the family's 10
children. Emily Black told LifeSiteNews that she set out to write “Mommy I’m
Yours” because she has always had a deep pro-life conviction. “I’ve always been
very pro-life and had a desire to get the word out there, but this song just
kind of happened. MORE |

What Is Natural Family Planning?
What
does the Catholic Church teach about married love?
Marriage
is an intimate, lifelong partnership in which
husbands and wives give and
receive love unselfishly. The sexual relationship
expresses their married love
and shows what it means to become “one body”
(Genesis 2:24) and “one flesh”
(Mark 10:8, Matthew 19:6). The sexual union is meant
to express the full
meaning of a couple’s love, its power to bind them
together “the unitive aspect
of marriage “and “its openness to new life” the
procreative aspect. MORE

Selective
Reduction: A Morality Tale
by
Susan
E. Wills
A
recent cover story in The New York Times Magazine
explores the
"ethical dilemma" parents and doctors face when
fertility treatments
produce two or three children and parents desire only
one (Ruth Padawer,
"The Two-Minus-One Pregnancy," Aug. 14, 2011). The
most curious aspect of the 5,000-word article is what
the Times did not
deem "fit to print." But before we discuss what's
missing, readers
may be interested to learn some little-known facts about
the $3 billion
fertility industry.
The
great majority of children created through in vitro
fertilization (IVF) end up
dead, either before implantation or before full-term
birth. To
achieve a plausible "success rate," IVF technicians
fertilize several
eggs (and often fertilize many) at the same time. While
some of the resulting
embryos are transferred to the uterus, many die or are
discarded immediately.
Others may be frozen for later attempts, but many will
not survive the thawing
process. MORE |
| GREAT QUOTES |
"Reason’s last step is the recognition that
there are an infinite number of things which are beyond it."
- St. Blaise Pascal
"Since you cannot do good to all, you are to
pay special attention to those who, by the accidents of time, or place, or
circumstances, are brought into closer connection with you."
St. Augustine
| "You may be surprised to learn that, in our
law, although the fetus is currently without the right to life, it does have
some rights. For instance, under civil law, the unborn child has the right to
inherit part of his father's estate should his father die before he is born,
and he has the right to sue his mother, or a doctor, for injuries sustained
while in the womb."
- Janet Smith
"Have a great compassion for people. To be
able to have a heart full of compassion, we need to pray. Especially be kind,
be loving to the poor. We think we do so much for the poor, but it is they who
make us rich. We are in debt to them. Do you want to do something beautiful for
God? There is a person who needs you. This is your chance."
- Mother Teresa

The Youthful Face of the Pro-Life Movement
Each year, the
Archdiocese of Washington, DC, hosts a Youth Rally and Mass for the
youth attending the March for Life in Washington, DC. The rally draws 18,000 participants - and another 17,000 request tickets but there isn't enough room for them! The Archdiocese of Washington created a short promotional video of last years rally. Take a look!
It's inspiring to see all these youth energized about their faith and
witnessing for life! (Pope Benedict XVI sent a message to these youth
last year. You can read it here.)

FROM THE
USCCB RESPECT LIFE PROGRAM:
Life
Matters: Abortion
The
reality
that abortion kills innocent children, hurts women
physically and
emotionally, and harms men, families, and society
demonstrates that the
Church's opposition to abortion—based on the inherent
dignity and equal value
of every human life—is the only moral choice, even for
nonbelievers.
