Providing a Safe Environment

“Catholic schools and religious education programs are to include in their health and sexuality curricula an appropriate discussion of child abuse. Other youth programs in Catholic parishes and institutions which teach about personal health and development or human sexuality are likewise to include a discussion of this topic”

- Decree on Child Protection of the Diocese of Steubenville

Providing a safe environment for our children is extremely important. In addition to a number of policies requiring background checks and training for employees and volunteers, the Diocese of Steubenville has assembled a collection of resources for parents, educators and volunteers to help keep our children safe.

Some of these resources are listed here. More resources can be found on the website for the Diocese of Steubenville, found here.

The newly launched Safe Environment Curriculum, "Made In His Image," can be found on this page of the diocesan website. This program is currently being used by all parishes and schools of the diocese. For additional resources, or any questions, please contact Joe Schmidt (373-3643 or basilicaDRE@gmail.com).
